Tulsa
is the second-largest city in the state of Oklahoma, with a population of approximately 384,000 residents. It is nestled in the northeastern part of Oklahoma, in the heart of what is known as "Green Country." The rolling green hills and wooded terrain of the city lies at an elevation of 700 feet above sea level. The city of Tulsa was first settled in the 1830s by the Creek Native American tribe. It is credited as the birthplace of U.S Route 66 and the home of Western Swing music. The city is also home to Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa. In 2005, Tulsa was selected as "One of America's Most Livable Large Cities." It is known as an art center for the state of Oklahoma, with the largest concentration of art deco architecture in the U.S. in the downtown buildings and churches. Spectacular works of art also dot the trails along the beautiful River Parks. Tulsa is home to two world-renowned museums, the Tulsa Ballet and Tulsa Opera, a state-of-the-arts Performing Arts Center. The Tulsa Port of Catoosa is one of the largest, most inland river-ports in the United States and the Tulsa International Airport offers direct service to most major U.S. cities. Other attractions include the Tulsa Zoo, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum and the nations third-largest municipal park, Mohawk Park.

Northeast Oklahoma has a temperate continental climate with occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Northeast Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in northeast Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is usually short, but pleasant, consisting of sunny days followed by cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, but occasionally experience extremes while annual snowfall averages about 9 inches.
