Sapulpa
is located in Creek and Tulsa Counties in northeast Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the population was 19,166 residents. Chief Sapulpa, a full blood lower Creek Indian of the Kasihta Tribe in Osocheetown, Alabama was the area's first permanent settler. Around 1850, he established a trading post near the meeting of Polecat and Rock creeks (about one mile southeast of present day downtown Sapulpa.) In its earliest days, Sapulpa was called Sapulpa Station, due to its location at the juncture of two railroads. Today, interstate, state and local highways all connect in Sapulpa, which is why it is called "Oklahoma's Most Connected City." Sapulpa's historic downtown area is filled with specialty shops and restaurants. Year round fishing opportunities are available at Lake Sahoma, as well as in a variety of streams and creeks in the area. Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Channel Catfish, Rainbow and Golden Trout, Perch, Blue Gill, and Redear perch can all be found within 5 miles from downtown Sapulpa. The annual season runs from November 1st to April 1st each year and two family fishing derbies are held in Sapulpa each year. Other outdoor activities available in Sapulpa include golf, tennis, swimming, picnicking and hiking.

Northeast Oklahoma has a temperate continental climate with occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Northeast Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in northeast Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is usually short, but pleasant, consisting of sunny days followed by cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, but occasionally experience extremes while annual snowfall averages about 9 inches.
