Bixby
is located in Tulsa and Wagoner Counties in northeast Oklahoma. It is considered a suburb of Tulsa and has a population of approximately 14,000. Bixby is one of the fastest growing communities in Oklahoma. Known for its fresh vegetables and sod-growing center, Bixby is dubbed "The Garden Spot of Oklahoma." Bixby is also noted for being the setting for at least two popular works of fiction: the best-selling novel, Tex by S.E. Hinton and the Midnighters trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Lake Bixhoma is located about five miles southeast of Bixby on Leonard Mountain and is known for its excellent fishing. Several other lakes and rivers in the area offer canoeing, fishing, swimming, sailing, hiking and horseback riding. Four city parks in Bixby feature nature trails and jogging paths, picnicking facilities, playground equipment, baseball and soccer fields, and lighted tennis courts. Two golf courses are also located in Bixby. In addition, several special events are held in the city each year, including the Bixby BBQ & Blues Festival in May, the Bixby Green Corn Festival in June and the Bixby Arts and Crafts Fair and Pumpkin Festival in October. In addition, the Tulsa State Fair is held each September and features livestock, a rodeo, horse shows, musical entertainment by top name artists, carnival rides and games.

Northeast Oklahoma has a temperate continental climate with occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Northeast Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in northeast Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is usually short, but pleasant, consisting of sunny days followed by cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, but occasionally experience extremes while annual snowfall averages about 9 inches.
