Fort-Gibson-Lake
is located five miles north of the town of Fort Gibson on Highway 80 in northeast Oklahoma. Whether youre looking for a place to relax in a secluded area in a cozy cabin or a to pitch a tent, Fort Gibson Lake has it all. There are 26 parks and recreational areas in the Fort Gibson Lake area. Eight marinas with concessions, on-the-water dining and boat docks are also available. The lake is known for its excellent fishing and is filled with black bass, white bass and catfish. Fort Gibson Lake has some of the best fishing in the United States. Also at the lake is a 4,500-acre waterfowl refuge and a 17,300-acre public hunting area. Other recreational activities at Fort Gibson Lake include boating, water-skiing, sailing, canoeing and swimming. A playground, nature trails, picnic areas, boat launch ramps and restrooms are located all around the lake. Fort Gibson Lake is also home to an annual Chili Cook-off, a Kids Fishing Derby, Lakefest Boat Racing and Summerfest! Towns located nearby include Fort Gibson and Wagoner.

Eastern Oklahoma has a temperate four-season climate with occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Eastern Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in eastern Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are usually accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is short, but often the most pleasant time of the year, consisting of sunny days and cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, but occasionally experience extremes. Annual snowfall averages around nine inches.
