Chickasha
is a city of approximately 16,000 residents, located in Grady County in central Oklahoma. It is home to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. One of the major attractions in Chickasha is Shannon Springs Park, which surrounds a beautiful spring fed lake. The park boasts a full mile hiking and jogging path. The southern loop of the path winds its way around Shannon Springs Lake, while the northern loop provides users with exercise stations scattered along the trail for those interested in a total body workout. A new trail links Shannon Springs to the University of Science and Arts campus. Eventually a city-wide trail system will link all of the city˘s major parks, the campus and the downtown central business district. Chickasha is also home to a sports complex that consists of 3 playgrounds, 11 soccer fields, 5 grassy ball fields, picnic tables and pavilions and much more. The city of Chickasha hosts an annual Festival of Light, which has received many awards, including the Regional Event of the Year, A.B.A. and Best Place to Take Out of Town Visitors. The festival takes place in Shannon Springs Park from Thanksgiving to the end of December and features carriage rides, pictures with Santa, shopping, and thousands of lights in trees, walkways, bridges and more. Chickasha is also home to the Muscle Car Ranch Swap Meet and Concert and the University of Science and Arts also hosts an annual festival called The Spring Triad.

Central Oklahoma has a sub-humid climate with frequent variations in weather seasonally and on a daily basis. Except during the consistently hot, humid summer months. Consistent winds, usually from the south or south-southeast during the summer, help temper the hotter weather. Consistent northerly winds during the winter intensify cold periods. Summers in central Oklahoma can be extremely hot. The area receives about 33 inches of rain annually and 9 inches of snow. Central Oklahoma has a severe weather season from March through August, and especially during April and May. Tornadoes have occurred in every month of the year. Oklahoma City has become one of the most tornado prone cities in the United States.
