Tornadoes can occur at any time of year, but are easily most frequent during springtime. April, May and June represent the months of peak occurrence. May's average of 20 tornado observations per month is the greatest. The winter months each average less than one tornado per month. Most, but not all, of Oklahoma's tornadoes travel to the north and east.
