Grand-Lake
is a popular recreational lake located in northeastern Oklahoma. There is also a small town near the lake, called Grand Lake Towne, that had a population of 65 as of the 2000 census. Grand Lake is also just west of the town of Grove, which is located in Delaware County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the population of Grove was 5,131 residents. With 1,300 miles of shoreline, Grand Lake is considered by many to be the premier recreational lake of the Midwest. It is definitely the crown jewel of a chain of lakes located in northeastern Oklahoma. Activities at the lake include swimming, fishing, boating, sailing, camping, golf, hiking and more. Four by four trails are also popular at Grand Lake. The scenic beauty of the lake draws people from all over the country and makes it a wonderful place for peaceful relaxation, as well as being a fun, family getaway. Grand Lake covers approximately 59,200 acres (240 km) and was constructed in 1940 when the Pensacola Dam was completed on the Grand (or Neosho) River. It is one of only two major lakes in the state where residents can own lakefront property on the water's edge. The nearby town of Grove offers restaurants, shopping and accommodations, as well as many other attractions. Lendonwood Gardens in located in Grove, which is three acres of grassy pathways that meander through more than 1,400 different types of plants, including one of the largest collections of Chamaecyparis (false cypress) in the United States.

Northeast Oklahoma has a temperate subtropical climate with four seasons and occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Northeast Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in northeast Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is usually short, but pleasant, consisting of sunny days followed by cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, but occasionally experience extremes while annual snowfall averages about 9 inches.

The closest airports in the area are the Northwest Arkansas Regional airport (XNA) located about 42 miles southeast of Grand Lake in Fayetteville Springdale, Arkansas, the Tulsa International airport (TUL) located approximately 52 miles west of Grand Lake in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Joplin Regional airport (JLN) located roughly 53 miles northeast of Grand Lake in Joplin, Missouri, and finally Davis Field (MKO) located around 61 miles southwest of Grand Lake in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
