Clinton
is located along historic Route 66 in Custer and Washita Counties in western Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the population was 8,833 residents. The town of Clinton is home to several notable attractions. The Route 66 Museum is dubbed Oklahomas official Route 66 Museum. Visitors can take a tour of pure Americana as they journey through the decades on Route 66. See the worlds largest Curio Cabinet, vintage automobiles, and much more in this museum. The Mohawk Indian Lodge Store was established in 1892 and is Oklahomas oldest Indian trading post. The store continues to buy, sell and trade authentic Indian artifacts as it has for well over 100 years. Also located in Clinton is the Cheyenne Cultural Center. This one-acre complex is located on the original Red Wheat allotment of the former Cheyenne-Arapaho Reservation. The Center features an exhibit area showcasing Cheyenne artists, an open-air portico, and a landscape of plants important to the Cheyenne way of life. Other places of interest in and around Clinton include the Acme Brick Park and Centennial Train, Foss State Park, the McClain Rogers Park and Historic Amphitheater and the Washita National Wildlife Preserve. The city also offers gaming, a motor sports park, an 18-hole golf course, putt-putt golf and a country music jamboree that offers live country and gospel music the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Eastern Oklahoma has a temperate four-season climate with occasional extremes in temperature and rainfall. Eastern Oklahoma is situated near the heart of Tornado Alley. Lightening is common in the spring months, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms containing large hail, damaging winds or tornadoes. There is also the potential for flooding in eastern Oklahoma, however, a comprehensive flood management plan is in place for the area. Summers are usually accompanied by high humidity. Autumn is short, but often the most pleasant time of the year, consisting of sunny days and cool nights. Winter temperatures are generally mild, with average snowfall around nine inches.
