Ardmore is located in south-central Oklahoma about 90 miles from Oklahoma City. It is situated at the junction of Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 70 and is considered the business, cultural and tourism hub of Carter County, Oklahoma. The estimated population of Ardmore is 24,625 residents, with the entire micropolitan area totaling 56,694 residents. Ardmore is situated about ten miles south of the Arbuckle Mountains, which is an ancient, eroded mountain range that spans some 100 km across southern Oklahoma. It is also located at the eastern margin of the Healdton Basin, which is one of the most oil-rich regions of the United States. Nearby is Lake Murray State Park, which offers numerous nature programs and outdoor recreational activities. Also within the park is the Tucker Tower Nature Center, which was built by the WPA. The structure looks like a lighthouse and served as a summer retreat for Governor Murray. Today, it houses local artifacts and is host to activities conducted by the state park naturalist. Other Ardmore attractions include the Eliza Cruce Hall Doll Museum, the Greater Southwest Historical Museum, the Tivoli Theatre and the Charles B. Gooddard Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
